Raghaveshwara seer raped me when I was a minor: Artiste

BENGALURU: A year after Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamy of Sri Ramachandrapur Mutt in Hosanagar of Shivamogga district was accused of sexually harassing a devotee, a Yakshagana artiste has filed a complaint of rape against him.
According to the complaint filed at Girinagar police station, the seer %had ‘married’ the artist e against her wish in 2006. She was a minor then %and a class 10 student of the mutt’s school. The harassment continued even after she moved to Girinagar in 2012. The mutt authorities allegedly threatened her against complaining, saying she would be cursed if she spoke of it to anyone.
Recently, the woman approached the All India Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane, a women’s rights organization where she was counselled. Later, she filed a police complaint. A case has been registered under section 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (causing hurt), 363 (kidnap) ad 506 (criminal intimidation). On Sunday, the woman was subjected to a medical examination and her statement was taken.
In August last year, the daughter %of a singer approached police, claiming she was assaulted by the seer. The %case was handed over to the CID. Recently, members of the National Commission for Women had raised objections to the inordinate delay in filing a chargesheet in the case, despite an FIR being filed a year ago.
